Game #3 Summary

The Hot Rods Hockey Club picked up their third straight win with a 6-2 victory over the Heartbreak Kids Friday night.

It was a penalty-filled affair, with goaltender John Barlow setting the tone early. After covering the puck and receiving a few whacks from the opposing player, Barlow felt that multiple trapper punches were required. In a post-game interview, Barlow gave the following statement, “One, two, or even three whacks I can handle, but 6 is unnecessary.”

The Heartbreak Kids were the first to hit scoresheet, but the Rods responded quickly and often with four unanswered goals. In a night where he would not be denied, Henry Leaver used the motto, “Forecheck, Backcheck, Paycheque” and was rewarded with a hat trick for all his hard work.

The rough stuff died down by the second period with the refs getting things under control, but not before each team had received 5 penalties, and at one point Mark Schellenberg got slapped in the face during a scrum. When the HB Kids received their 6^th penalty, Nick Giannoulis (aka Birthday Boy) was called upon to take the penalty shot, but unfortunately buckled under the pressure. The Hot Rods were hoping that this was not a trend for the rest of the night as he was looking to score later as well.
