Game #3 Summary

The Hot Rods Hockey Club picked up their third straight win with a 6-2 victory over the Heartbreak Kids Friday night.

It was a penalty-filled affair, with goaltender John Barlow setting the tone early. After covering the puck and receiving a few whacks from the opposing player, Barlow felt that multiple trapper punches were required. In a post-game interview, Barlow gave the following statement, “One, two, or even three whacks I can handle, but 6 is unnecessary.”

The Heartbreak Kids were the first to hit scoresheet, but the Rods responded quickly and often with four unanswered goals. In a night where he would not be denied, Henry Leaver used the motto, “Forecheck, Backcheck, Paycheque” and was rewarded with a hat trick for all his hard work.

The rough stuff died down by the second period with the refs getting things under control, but not before each team had received 5 penalties, and at one point Mark Schellenberg got slapped in the face during a scrum. When the HB Kids received their 6th penalty, Nick Giannoulis (aka Birthday Boy) was called upon to take the penalty shot, but unfortunately buckled under the pressure. The Hot Rods were hoping that this was not a trend for the rest of the night as he was looking to score later as well.

Full game details are available on the Game Summary.

The Hot Rods next game is Friday, Sept. 29th, 9:00 pm at Scott Seaman against the Healthy Scratches.

Game #2 and Schedule Updates

The Hot Rods Hockey Club picked up their second win of the season Monday night in a hard fought battle with the Aces. The score on the league website says 7-4, but the actual result was a much closer 6-5.

You see, there would be no way that the Rods could have scored 7 goals, specifically that Tom Hautzinger could have scored 2. In the history of all hockey, no player has scored more than one goal in a game where their only move is to cut to the outside during a rush. Therefore, it can be deduced that Hautzinger could not have scored 2 goals, and therefore the Rods could not have 7 total goals.

You can see the full game recap, and completely blatant deception from Monday's game at Hot Rods Game #2

The remainder of the 2017-18 Schedule was posted today and it looks as though we better like those Friday games. For the rest of the season, except for 1 Wednesday game and 2 Saturday games, all of our games are Friday nights at 9:00 pm at Scott Seaman Stadium.

Please be advised, the schedule will probably change slightly as divisional realignment occurs after the first 5-8 games. As well, I have only entered the games on Teamsnap up to Xmas in case there is significant changes to the schedule (probably wont be though).

You can see our schedule up to Christmas on the calendar on the side of  this Blog---------->

Hot Rods Season Opener

The Hot Rods Hockey Club kicked off the 2017-2018 winter season with a 5-1 victory over the Eh Team II on Friday, Sept. 15. Some credited the win to their lucky charms, the new Hot Rods HC hats.

John Barlow was stellar in net keeping the Hot Rods in it throughout the whole game, stopping multiple breakaways.

After a scoreless first period, it didn't take long for the Rods to get their first goal, coming a couple minutes into the second period. Who else should open the scoring but the leading scorer from last season, Tony Schellenberg. The Hot Rods then proceeded to get goals from 4 more players, Nick Giannoulis, Keith Pelletier, Ian Silkstone and Cam Campbell.

Barlow had the shutout going through most of the third period, but after a broken play in the defensive end, it was not meant to be.

The refs chose Andrew McAllister as the player of the game due to the fact that despite his favorite ref calling the game, he didn't receive one penalty and he dint call anyone a c#*t!

Next game is Monday, Sept 18 at 9 pm at Scott Seaman against the Aces.
